(My boyfriend likes to say sweet things to me by turning around something that I say. For example, if I say ‘that’s a cute kitten!’, he says, ‘you’re kinda cute’. If I say, ‘the weather is gorgeous!’, he says, ‘you’re gorgeous!’.”)

Me: *picking up a pillow* “Oh! These pillows are so plush!”

Boyfriend: “You’re kinda plush.”

(I stare at my boyfriend, as a remarkable look of horror creeps over his face.)

Boyfriend: “Oh, crap!”

(I bust up laughing.)

(My boyfriend and I are driving. He has helped me to grow as a person, and I am trying to express that to him. I am notoriously unromantic.)

Me: “Thank you, so much.”

Boyfriend: “For what, honeysuckle?”

Me: “Everything. Before you came into my life, I was a lost puppy. You have helped me grow into an amazing person.”

Boyfriend: “Aw, that’s sweet!”

(He has a big smile one his face.)

Me: “I truly feel like you are the other half of me, the one that makes my world go round. The one that I want to see first thing in the morning, and all that crap.”

(He starts laughing.)

Boyfriend: “You almost had it, babe.”

Me: “You know it was honest, right?”

Boyfriend: “So, guess what we’re doing tonight?”

(He has been dangling this in front of me all day.)

Me: “I have no idea. None. Zip. Zilch. Nada. What are we doing?”

Boyfriend: *excited* “We’re going to see the Muppets movie!”

(I release an unintelligible, loud, incredibly excited scream.)

Girls across from us: “Congratulations!”

Boyfriend: *whispering* “I think that those girls thought that I just proposed to you.”

(I am at school with my girlfriend, not long before our nine-month anniversary. We stop to say hello to a teacher we both had years before. I decide to tell the teacher about our upcoming anniversary.)

Girlfriend and I: *together* “Hi, Mrs.[name]!”

Teacher: “Hi!”

Me: *hugging girlfriend* “Almost nine months!”

(Our teacher looks at me strangely, and covers her mouth with one hand.)

Me: *realizing what I said, and blushing* “Uh. since we started dating!”

(My boyfriend and I work odd shifts, with him not always being able to see me. It’s a slow day, and I’m working at my register. I feel someone tap me on the shoulder. My manager is standing there, with a concerned look on his face.)

Manager: “I need you to go back to site-to-store.”

(I’m confused, since I’m not trained to work back there.)

Me: “Is there a problem?”

Manager: “Just go.”

(I head to the back of the store. I get the surprise of my life when I see that not only is there an insane display of fresh roses, but also a huge balloon. I look behind me and find my boyfriend standing there with the biggest smile on his face.)

Boyfriend: “Surprise!”

Me: *laughing as I hug him* “What’s all this about?”

Boyfriend: “I just wanted to do something special for you, and see you smile.”

(I got to go home early that day, which was the icing on a perfect day!)
